About us

BookTour.com was founded in late 2006 by three authors who were also avid readers and believers that technology can transform how authors and their book find receptive groups of readers. We're a free online service that connects authors on tour and potential audiences of all sorts, from book lovers to professional groups. Authors create their own page (biography, books, tour dates and availability) and any group looking for a speaker can find them and contact them directly to arrange for an appearance. Relevant information for both authors and venues can be added in minutes through simple cutting and pasting. Connecting authors with potential audiences then is as simple as searching (by geography, book titles, subject, dates of availability) and sending an email.

For authors, BookTour.com serves as a one stop shop to democratize book promotion, allowing authors at all levels of their career to locate receptive live audiences. For readers and audiences, BookTour.com makes finding when your favorite author is coming to your town as easy as checking the weather.

The three founders are Chairman Chris Anderson, editor-in-chief of Wired Magazine and author of The Long Tail (Hyperion, 2006), Chief Evangelist Kevin Smokler, editor of Bookmark Now (Basic, 2005) and creator of the Virtual Book Tour, and CTO Adam Goldstein, author of several volumes of the Missing Manual computer book series. Our company philosophy comes from our dual love of books and technology as well as our own experiences as both authors and audience members.

In that spirit, At BookTour.com we believe it should easy, painless and fun for authors and groups of people who love to hear authors speak to connect with one another, as easy as walking into your own house and pulling your favorite book off the shelf.

The three of us are crazy excited to build the most useful service we can for each of you. Should you have any questions or feedback on how we can do that, please let us know.
