Generally Excellent

Nma7I really will resist indulging in too much Wired autohornblowing here, but this is worth making an exception for. Yesterday we won the prestigious National Magazine Awards' top prize, General Excellence, for the 500,000-1m circulation category. Our sister titles at Conde Nast, The New Yorker and Glamour, won in 1m-2m and 2m+, respectively, and completing the clean sweep of eligible categories, Style.com, the website of CN's Vogue and W, won the top online award.

The three 2004 issues we submitted were February:

1202wired_2

October (which included  the original Long Tail article):

1210wired_2

and November (Creative Commons CD):

1211wired

Congratulations to the whole team!

Hey! Looking at your list, I just realized that I never got the November issue in my subscription! Dammit!

Seriously though, congratulations on the award and please keep the stories coming. The Long Tail article is what brought me to your blog. The Plot to Kill Evolution issue was tremendous and much needed given the shift towards anti-intellectualism in American culture.

Thank you.

Bryan,

Email me your postal address and I'll get one to you pronto. Sorry!

Congratulations! Thanks for keeping us all Wired :)

Congrats, great mag.

Something you might find interesting from the National Association of Broadcasters conference:

"SBC hopes to offer programming for mass audiences as well as more specialized fare that can take advantage of "mass niching" such as foreign-language programs for widely dispersed ethnic groups that would otherwise be too small to make up an economically attractive audience in a single community."

Luv your mag... brilliant and dynamic... kewl to see that you keep your edge thru time!!! CONGRATS.
so... and now start blogging again on long-tail PLEASE =)))

Chris, where are you? :)

David,

Thanks for the prod. I've been swamped putting out the latest issue and getting the Long Tail research machine up to speed. You'll love the data we're getting. Now I'm turning back to writing, so you should see some posts today or tomorrow.

Chris

Indeed, Wired has improved tremendously since the departure of Metcalf and Rossetto.
