Mathematica demonstration of The Long Tail

Readers of this blog will recall that when I eventually ran into the limits of Excel as an analytical tool, I flailed about with a lot of math software before settling on Mathematica as my stats platform of choice for Long Tail analysis. Now comes two bits of good news. First, Mathematica has been upgraded to version 6, which it claims is the most significant advance in its history. Wolfram Research kindly sent me a review copy of the new version, which I haven't had a chance to test yet, but new features include:

• Dynamic interactivity, allowing sophisticated interactive interfaces to be created from single lines of input
• High-impact adaptive visualization for automated creation of high-fidelity function and data graphics
• Language for data integration, including automatic integration of hundreds of standard data formats
• Load-on-demand curated data for math, physics, chemistry, finance, geography, linguistics, and more
• Symbolic interface construction for immediate creation of arbitrary interfaces from simple programs
• Automated computational aesthetics, with algorithmic optimization for visual presentation
• Unification of active graphics and controls with flowing text and input

Second, and (for me) more importantly, Wolfram now has a Long Tail interactive demonstration as part of its online gallery of cool things Mathematica can do.
